SAP
Student Assistance Program (SAP)
The Yough Senior High School Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a school-based intervention program that identifies students struggling with issues like substance abuse, mental health problems, and other barriers to learning. Each school district has a trained SAP team and a liaison, often from Westmoreland Case Management and Supports, Inc. (WCSI), who connects students and families to community services for support. Referrals can come from teachers, parents, or students, and the team works to connect students with appropriate resources, which can include academic help, counseling, or drug and alcohol treatment.
How the program works
- Referral: Anyone, including teachers, parents, or the student, can refer a student to the program.
- Team evaluation: A team of school personnel, including a liaison from Westmoreland Casemanagement and Supports, Inc. (WCSI), will review the referral.
- Parental consent: A parent or guardian will be contacted to discuss the concerns and will need to provide a signature to agree to the process.
- Intervention and referral: The SAP team will identify the student's needs and help connect them and their family to appropriate school and community resources.
- Support services: These resources can include academic support, mental health services, and drug and alcohol treatment, depending on the student's needs.
- Confidentiality: The program respects student and parent privacy and maintains confidentiality in accordance with state and federal laws.
